Restaurant Review: Bridgeport's Metric Bar and Grill
If you're ever in downtown Bridgeport and looking to eat something other than Subway or Chinese food, then the Metric Bar and Grill at 39 Cannon Street (right across the street from the Bridgeport Courthouse) is a good place to go.
I went there on a Friday night which meant a fair number of other people were there as well. The restaurant is split into two sections, a bar with TVs and an upscale restaurant section. I sat at a table right near the bar, and watched "Law and Order" on one of the screens for a few minutes before I started off with an appetizer. Jazz music played in the background as I waited.
I ordered fire cracker wings, which were fried chicken wings covered in hot sauce ($7.95). There were about eight wings total, with two pieces of celery and two pieces of carrot.
The wings were only average. They were too crunchy and didn't have enough flavor for my liking.
After that, I looked through the menu and saw that they were serving Black History Month specials. One of which was a fried pork chop with collard greens, macaroni and cheese, and a piece of cornbread ($17.95). The order took about 20 minutes to come.
The mac n' cheese was very good, although a little more cheese might have helped. The pork chop was tasty, as the meat was juicy, tender and thoroughly cooked. The chop's coating was nice and flaky. The cornbread was very good, as cornbread always is, and the collard greens added a nice contrast.
To end my meal, I got vanilla ice cream with a brownie. The ice cream was drizzled with chocolate sauce and the plate had strawberry drizzle. Not much needs to be said; it was very good.
My meal in total ran up to about $34, not including tip. I wouldn't rush to come back here, but if you're looking for a solid meal in Bridgeport, you could do worse.
