Halloween DIY
Since Halloween is coming up, there is always the question of what to dress up as. It is hard to find a good costume considering that someone else might have the same one or it is too expensive. But what's the fun of being the regular nerd, vampire, zombie, mummy or Jersey Shore character? Do not fear here are some ideas to get the pumpkins spinning in your head.
Always know that there is something in your closet that you can use. For ladies, try Audrey Hepburn from Breakfast at Tiffany's. All you need is a black dress some long black gloves and big black sunglasses. For Barbie, dress in all pink and don't forget to add those accessories, plastic rings and necklaces, and maybe to top it off draw the Barbie signature on yourself with some costume paint. Golden Goddess (inspired by Martha Stewart), dress in all white with some gold accessories and for make-up do a soft face with some gold eye shadow.
For the gents out there, how about Kip from Napoleon Dynamite when he is waiting for Lafawnduh? Put on any color polo, tan pants, loafers (or sneakers), glasses (prescription or non), don't forget to add a mustache and the famous Lafawnduh sign. Greaser, tight white tee, black jacket, aviators or any sunglasses, black shoes or boots, tight or less baggy jeans, don't forget to carry around a comb you always have to make sure your hair is perfect! Antoine Dodson, jeans, black tank top, red bandanna, and don't forget rolled up newspapers. Dress as Nickelodeon's Doug—tan shorts, green vest, ankle socks, and a white tee under the green vest. Justin Bieber—white tee, jeans, sneakers, any color hoodie, hat to the side, and don't forget to slick that hair down or spike it up.
If you have a group of friends, one of you could dress up as Nicki Minaj and three others as the Lonely Island from the music video "The Creep." Seven deadly sins? Get seven friends together and get creative for Greed (green and money symbols), sloth (sweatpants, sweatshirt and mess hair), wrath(the most evil of all, think of wearing red and black as well as dark eye makeup), envy (simple, pure, natural beauty so wear soft colors and makeup), pride (wear a tiara and carry around a trophy, know you're the best), lust (be as desirable as possible, preferably wear something red),and gluttony (have lots of different kinds of food handy). Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, wear a green shirt with jeans (or for girls preferably leggings) paint on the front of the green shirt the underneath of a turtle shell, and also make sure to wrap a different color ribbon around your head to represent a different member of the group.
There are many other costumes out there though, so remember, JUST GET CREATIVE! Think of different movie characters, TV show hosts, cartoon characters, food, animals, occupation or anything you wanted to be when you were a little kid. Even if you just take a trip down the street to Walgreens and pick out a few random things like vampire fangs and a tiara, just remember to mix it up.
And if it's not in your closet then ladies it's in your makeup bag. Try and look at different music videos like Katy Perry's E.T.; her makeup is easily done. It just takes time and patience. Cat eyes, fairy eyes or doing your whole entire face like a skeleton or half of a skeleton, it takes time, but it is easy. You can look up tutorials on youtube.com as well as marthastewart.com. Remember, this is just to make you think you don't have to do any of these, it's just to get those gears turning. Good luck and use your imagination!
